Amount of time which should be spent reading every day: 30 - 40 minutes
Key Spellings/ spelling patterns for the term: Y5 & Y6 High Frequency Words as well as looking at how adding suffixes and prefixes change the meaning of words.
Key maths facts which your child needs to know this term: all times tables (up to 12 x 12) and related division facts.
This term the children will be focusing on both fiction and non-fiction texts to support their current topic – ‘Tragic Titanic’. The children will have the opportunity to create narratives, write journalistic articles and non-chronological reports. Spelling and grammar will be a focus throughout all lessons. Guided Reading will be taught to develop inference and comprehension skills. Next half term our English will be based around the topic of "World at War (Home front during WW2)” where the children will develop their skills on explanation and narrative writing.
This term the topics of place value, addition, subtraction and angles will be covered. The children will develop their skills on percentages and fractions and decimals. Additionally, basic mental maths skills (including number bonds and times tables) will be covered and the children will have the opportunity to apply these skills within a context or problem.
All other subjects (including French)
Geography: The children will be looking at natural disasters and emergency services response.
History: The Titanic and the Home front during World War 2.
Science: The children will be focusing on states of matter
French: The children will be learning the vocabulary relating to places in town.
