Year 2 - Curriculum Overview 2019/20

 

PE: Tuesday afternoon 

  • PE kit to include: a Harris Primary Kenley Academy PE t-shirt (white), black shorts, black tracksuit bottoms and tracksuit top, suitable footwear for PE (trainers and/or plimsolls) and socks.  

  • Please ensure all items are clearly named.  

  • Earrings should be removed on PE days or covered by a parent/ carer before the school day begins.  

Home Learning 

Maths and English: Set weekly       Due in: Monday          Set: Tuesday 

  • Weekly home learning tasks are recorded in the front of your child’s home learning books and on the academy website. 

  • If your child’s home learning books are not completed and/or not handed in on a Monday you will be notified by text message (on a Monday), informing you that your child will need to attend Home Learning Club on a Tuesday lunchtime to support them to complete their missing home learning.  

 

Reading:

Reading books are changed once weekly by an adult. Books are banded by colour based on reading assessments. Children are also encouraged to read a book of their choosing at home. 

                    Due in: Tuesday         Sent home: Wednesday  

Children are asked to read for at least 10 minutes, at least 5 times a week.  

Reading Expectations:  

  • To read five times weekly for 10-15 minutes. This may include your child reading aloud to an adult or an adult reading aloud to your child.   

  • Reading should be recorded and signed by an adult in the Reading Record. 

  • Reading Records will be checked weekly on a Tuesday for the five reads.  

  • If five reading entries have not been recorded by an adult, your child will attend Reading Club on a Wednesday breaktime to support your child with their reading.  

Reading Bookmarks:  

  • Your child can collect ticks to earn certificates and badges. 

  • They can earn one tick a week for reading their book and one tick a week for reading additional reading books. They can earn a maximum of two ticks a week.  

 

Spellings: Year 2 weekly spellings will be sent home on a Monday with a maximum of 5 spellings per week and need to be brought back in on a Friday. 

Times Tables: Please see Year 2 half termly curriculum notes for the focus for each half term. Your child can use Times Table Rockstars at home to support their times table knowledge.
