Design and Technology
“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”
Steve Jobs
At Harris Primary Academy Kenley, we believe design and technology is about designing and making products for a specific user and purpose. It involves children in learning about the world we live in and developing a wide range of knowledge and skills through designing and making. It helps children to think through problems creatively, about how to organise themselves and how to use knowledge and skills to bring about change and to shape the environment. Through design and technology, children become discriminating and informed users of products and become innovators.
At HPAK, we teach design and technology ensuring the children can go through the design process from understanding design brief to evaluating the end product.
Cooking and nutrition is taught alongside design and technology when the children have to design and make a food product for a client. We feel it is vitally important that all of the children know about healthy eating, where our food comes from and how to cook, as these are skills that they will need all throughout life.
